Recovery Mode

What happens after class? Learn the best way to take care of your body after an intense aerial class. Of course, the more you take class the better your body will adapt and adjust to the training. However, there are some tips every aerialist should know about recovery.

1. Go eat some carbs and protein! I'm guessing that is not exactly what you thought of hearing. But this is the truth! You just burned a lot of calories and carbs are the best way to fill the gap quickly. Protein is what you need to nurture muscle growth and restoration.

2. Roll out tight muscles with a lacrosse ball, foam roller, or tennis ball. This will help the lactic acid that builds up in sore muscles release tension and dissolve.

3. Take about ten minutes to do a full body stretch. After rolling out muscles this is a great way to further help your muscles squeeze out the soreness and leave you feeling better the next day. Don't forget to stretch out your hands and shoulders just as much as any other area of the body. The hand muscles that create your grip strength will need some loving.

4. DRINK WATER. As much as this is stated, the truth in this statement is vital. After releasing lactic acid build up, the chemical is now more readily absorbed in your body and needs to be flushed out properly. Water is the best way to do this. Drink a normal amount, and your body should take care of the rest.

5. Have a relaxing warm bath with Epsom Salt. This experience will help your muscles relax further and act as a warm massage. Spend at least 30 minutes soaking up the goodness to get the full experience.

6. Put on lotion. After a class has ended putting on lotion is essential to avoid dry, and cracked skin. Remember in the first blog post about preparing for class where I stated to not apply lotion? Yes, that is only for the hours before a class. No one wants dry skin all day!

7. Put ice on any areas that are inflamed. These areas could be any joints of the body that are used as hooks in aerial. Typically the ankles, shoulders, wrists, knees, hips, or neck are these areas. Judge for yourself the amount of pain and if it is substantial then, of course consult a doctor.

8. Get a good nights sleep! I know this is not always applicable to everyone but you will be surprised by how tired your body is if this is a new activity for you. At least 7-9 hours should be enough to give your body sufficient recovery!

There you go! Here are 8 tips for you to have the best recovery after class! Thanks for reading! And let us know if you have any tips you want to share in our Forum!
